Dancers impress at dance clash

THE Bulawayo Dance Clash held over the weekend has been described as a success by the dance groups with some challenging musicians such as Jah Prayzah and Alick Macheso to make use of them in their music videos.

It was a gathering of 15 up-and-coming and veteran dance groups that showcased their varied dance skills at Zansibar on Saturday night.

During the show, one of the MCs, Kedha from Harare, after witnessing the talent, challenged artistes to make use of the dance groups in order to support them.

“These groups are very talented. They know what they’re doing and they do it in style. I want to challenge artistes like Jah Prayzah and Alick Macheso to use these dance groups for their music videos.

“I’m not advocating for any dance crew in particular, but they should pick from any. It’ll be a way to promote them and support the dance industry,” said Kedha.

His sentiments were received with a round of applause from the groups.

Stand out performers during the night were Snippers Dance Crew which mesmerised the audience with their mixture of pantsula and contemporary dance moves. Khaya Arts and Ezimnyama Dance Troupe also showed why they are touted the best in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe in traditional dance respectively.

New Age were also a marvel to watch while watching Sungura Masters was like watching horses run a race at breakneck speed when they did the famous Borrowdale dance.

Dancers Association of Zimbabwe president Harpers Mapimhidze, who organised the dance fiesta in conjunction with Devine Assignments, said he was more than captivated by the talent in Bulawayo.

“I was impressed by the outcome of the event and the talent that was shown on stage. Bulawayo dance groups are very talented as they can do every type of dance,” said Mapimhidze.
