A 23-year-old Mutare gospel artiste, Tonderai Mandirasa, has joined a bandwagon of upcoming artistes by releasing two new single titled Tendeuka and Mbiri Kunashe last week. These are Mandirasa’s second and third tracks. They were produced by Stylous Pikado in Dangamvura. The young gospel artiste stormed into the limelight in 2010 when he released his single titled Ndoda kuona chiso chaMwari which received rave reviews in most functions around the city.
His backing vocalists were Anna Shiridzinomwa, Ngonidzashe and Bev from Dangamvura.
The 23-year-old artiste said in an interview that he drew his inspiration from popular gospel musicians, Mathius Mhere and Takesure Zambuko.
“I was mostly inspired by Mathius Mhere and Takesure Zambuko. These two artistes gave me a reason to believe in myself in the gospel music scene. Their songs are charged with meaning and I am looking forward to be like them someday. I want to preach the gospel to people through my music,” said Mandirasa.
“I am however, looking forward to producing eight more tracks within the next two months, despite the financial challenges that I’m facing. I have been working hard to sponsor myself ever since I started. In that case I am appealing to members of the public who can help me in any form to support me. I am still too young and I believe nothing will stop me from achieving my dreams as a musician,” he said.
Mandirasa started performing in churches at the age of eight.
