BULAWAYO’S own Daniel Lasker is stepping into the global limelight after signing with powerhouse US agency, Innovative Artists Entertainment, in a move set to rocket his acting career into Hollywood’s big leagues.

The actor, known for his electrifying screen presence, inked the deal with the bi-coastal agency that boasts offices in Los Angeles and New York. The agency reps some of the biggest names in film, TV and beyond.
“I’m thrilled to join the Innovative Artists family,” said Lasker. “They represent actors I’ve looked up to for years. This opens up incredible opportunities.”

Lasker is already turning heads with his portrayal of villain Mr 9 in Netflix’s live-action version of One Piece, one of the most-watched anime adaptations globally. With this major role under his belt, Hollywood is beginning to sit up and take notice.

He’s set to star as Barnabus in the upcoming action-comedy London Calling, directed by Allan Ungar and featuring heavyweights Josh Duhamel and Aidan Gillen. Lasker described the experience as “brilliant” and said sharing scenes with Duhamel was a career highlight.

The rising star has already racked up a strong résumé with roles in Ridley Scott’s Raised by Wolves, BBC’s Noughts + Crosses, Syfy’s Vagrant Queen, and History Channel’s Abraham Lincoln.

He has also made waves behind the camera, directing and starring in the 2023 horror flick Hidden Within, which follows a woman uncovering chilling secrets in rural Zimbabwe.

In 2022, his IsiNdebele sci-fi short The Signal wowed global audiences, bagging the Best Live Action Short Film at the Brooklyn Sci-fi Film Festival.

Now managed by Robert Stein Management and repped by Innovative Artists, Lasker’s star is clearly on the rise.

From Makokoba to Netflix and beyond, the world is finally watching.
