Daniel Shumba loses credibility

MASVINGO City Council has turned down an offer by Masvingo Central MP Dr Daniel Shumba to build state-of-the art sporting facilities.

According to minutes of a recent full council meeting, the city fathers turned down Dr Shumba’s application for permission to work with the local authority in transforming existing sporting facilities that include football stadia, tennis and basketball courts into world class structures because he failed to honour earlier pledges.

Dr Shumba had indicated that he was going to drill boreholes at each of the sporting facilities located in the city’s 10 wards.

The city fathers said it was difficult to take Dr Shumba’s offer seriously after he failed to fulfil his promise to build a clinic for the local authority in 2013.

Councillors resolved that the MP should first build the clinic he promised before they could consider his latest offer.

“It has been noted that the applicant once pledged to avail funds for the construction of a clinic but the project was never implemented. The committee can only consider the sporting facility project after the applicant has availed resources to build a clinic as promised,” read the minutes.

Dr Shumba said the councillors were trying to block his development projects through lies.

“I am surprised to hear that I promised to build a clinic. When and where did I make such promises? Ask them for a signed contract or even a letter to that effect. No party enters into such agreements without a written contract,” he said.

Masvingo Mayor Councillor Hubert Fidze insisted that the MP promised to build a clinic and also drill boreholes but nothing materialised.— @walterbmswazie3
