D’Aquino has strong hand in Republic Cup

at Borrowdale Park tomorrow.

The Republic Cup over 1 900m comes as the feature event on the day where seven races have been carded.
With US$40 000 in stakes, the feature race prides itself as one of the biggest sprints on the Borrowdale calendar after the Castle Tankard and the OK Grand Challenge.
During the OK Grand Challenge, D’Aquino had six equine athletes with Genepri coming out tops.

To assert its status as a big race, the Republic Cup has attracted a classy field that includes this year’s winners of the Castle Tankard and the OK Grand Challenge.
The four-year-old bay gelding Genepri by D’Aquino gets the services of jockey Francois Herholdt and is number six on the card.

For many punters this horse will be one to bet for if form is anything to go by.
The biggest challenge for the Easing Along offspring could come from Triple Crown winner Madigan from the Kirk Swanson stable.

In their last meeting, Magidan (2) finished a lens behind and the son of Joshua Dancer has stable jockey Quinton Riddle on board as they try to get their revenge on Genepri.
Another favourite in the field is 2013 Castle Tankard winner, the bay gelding A King is Born who is coming from Alyson Wright’s care.
Argentine- bred Choisir is the defending champion in the Republic Cup and goes into the race with a record of 28 runs, five wins and 12 lacings.

Prior to the OK Grand Challenge, the seven-year-old gelding had been rested for 216 days, forcing him to miss the Castle Tankard.
Also coming from D’Aquino’s will be Burmese Cat, seasoned campaigner Eighth Street, Final Fling and Royal Arrow.

Young trainer Gorkhan Terzi’s brightest prospects lie in Super Trouper who will have the advantage in weights over Genepri and Madigan.
Super Trouper will partner Juan Paul Van D’ Marwe for its 34th career run that is laced with eight wins and six places.

Leading trainer Lisa Harris has Charro Negro, who has relocated from South Africa but is yet to make a huge impact on the local track while the six-year-old chestnut gelding Richie Rich (17) could made big statement with Jarred Samuel.

After the Republic Cup, MTC racing manager Robson Chinamasa, said activity on the track will take a break.
“After the Republic Cup, we will take a break where the track undergoes some maintenance and we will resume racing on September 8 with the Borrowdale Handicap over 1 800m as the feature race,” said Chinamasa.
