ZIMBABWE international Tendayi Darikwa has been named in the English Football League One Team of the Week following an impressive performance in Wigan Athletic’s 2-0 win over Burton Albion.
Darikwa, who had played every minute in Wigan’s league campaign this season, featured 69 minutes on Saturday and capped a fine day with an assist.
His Latics teammates Curtis Tilt and James McClean also featured in the EFL League One Team of the Week.
McClean’s 10th-minute strike gave Latics the lead on Saturday before Tilt scored a scorcher at the start of the second half to help wrap up the points for Leam Richardson’s side at the DW Stadium.
Darikwa, despite getting his fourth yellow card, had a game to savour the Zimbabwean provided the assist for the first goal. This was his second assist this season.
Max Power released Darikwa on the right with a chipped ball over the top, and the Latics skipper delivered an inviting ball to the far post that was met by McClean’s outstanding left-footed volley.
Wigan Athletic are second in the league standings with 31 points, two behind Brendan Galloway’s Plymouth Argyle. The Latics have a game in hand nonetheless.
Attention now turns to Tuesday night as they travel to Fleetwood Town, looking to match their club record of six consecutive away wins.
