SIXTY-FIVE gold panners have been charged with prospecting for minerals without a permit, following their invasion of Lowdale Police Farm in Mazowe.

Police arrested the group on Wednesday.

The officers were deployed on an operation to clamp down on illegal miners.

Upon arrival, police observed some miners wearing torches on their foreheads and surrounded them.

The cops noticed that some individuals were outside shafts searching for minerals, while others were inside extracting mineral ores.

The police team demanded licences from the miners, which allowed them to prospect for minerals, but they all failed to produce the permits, leading to their arrest.

Mandirasa Chigumira appeared for the State.
