A DARK cloud hung over Harare Drive as Mt Pleasant residents joined Ashley Musendekwa’s inconsolable relatives, friends and schoolmates as they mourned his untimely death in a horrific car crash.

The St George’s schoolboy (17) died on the spot when the KIA he was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a Koala Park truck at around 5pm on Wednesday.

Ashley had sat for an A-Level exam just hours before the tragedy.

Eyewitnesses claimed Ashley was driving at high speed, in what appeared to be a race with a schoolmate, who was driving a Mercedes Benz.

He is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal collision.

Mwana wangu amai. Ashley watifungirei chaizvo, kuenda nenzira inorwadza kudai,” one relative wailed soon after arriving at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Koala Park truck was rushed to hospital.

His unidentified assistant escaped unhurt, but complained of some side pains.

It took almost five hours for people to disperse from the horrific scene.
