ACTION continues in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League tonight with defending champions Archers playing host to early season title aspirants Unit Fairbridge. Both teams go into today’s match with a 100 percent record with Archers benefiting from a first week walk over ZRP Bulawayo and last Wednesday’s 27-12 win against New Dawn.
Fairbridge beat Highlanders 25-14 in the opening day of the season followed by a 20-19 win over Maisonic.
The Support Unit will have to find ways of stopping the champions who won last season’s title without losing a match.
Archers’ hopes will be pinned on the likes of Brian Ndlovu, Nkululeko Ncube, youngster Tafadzwa Mtomba and Albert Tawanda. They have also roped in Ndumiso Tshuma who turned out for Old Nic Mine last season.
On the other hand, Tapera Makado and Jimmy Magwayi carry Fairbridge’s hopes.
In other matches, last season’s runners-up Railstars are at home to New Dawn with Old Nic Mine playing host to Highlanders while Parkview Khanka take on ZRP Bulawayo at Parkview Sports Club.
Meanwhile, Lethukuthula Nkomo, a member of the BMPDL executive committee, has appealed to clubs to fulfil their matches.
“Since its early days, we are calling on all clubs to avoid walkovers because that is against the spirit of Fair Play and it is bad for the sport.
“We are passionately appealing to clubs to make sure that they fulfil their games and if they have problems or challenges they must advise the league or their opponents in advance so that we avoid unnecessary costs,” Nkomo said.
Last season, BMPDL noted that some clubs in fear of suffering heavy defeats were intentionally avoiding playing strong opposition with players not turning up on match day.
