ALL Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League matches which were set for tonight have been cancelled due to today’s harmonised national elections.Lethukuthula Nkomo, the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League organising secretary said today’s fixtures have been rescheduled to 19 August.
He said they will use today to prepare for next month’s Heroes National Darts Championships.
Bulawayo will play host to the tournament that will run from 9-13 August at Hillside Teachers’ College.
The players that were selected at last month’s trials which were conducted at Bellevue Sports Club will take on Bulawayo’s Team A at Highlanders Sports Club this afternoon.
“The league matches have been cancelled to allow our members to exercise their voting rights. We also have some of our members who will be having work commitments due to elections and we saw it proper to cancel our programme.
“However, we will have two of our Bulawayo teams having a training game this afternoon at Highlanders Sports Club. The Heroes tournament is around the corner and as the hosts, we want to be at our best so today is a perfect time to prepare for the tournament,” said Nkomo.
Most of the players in Bulawayo’s squad for the Heroes competition are from championship favourites Archers.
Nkululeko Ncube, Brian Ndlovu and Simon James who have been instrumental in Archers’ campaign were shortlisted for the provincial squad.
Railstars’ Mgcini Nkala and Sylvester Mudekwa, Blazio Nyamuzinga representing Unit Fairbridge and Jonis Chiduwo of ZRP Bulawayo are some of the players that are in the provisional team.

Former national champion Ndumiso Tshuma, Moses Ndlovu, Godfrey Mazonde, Okay Sibanda, Maxmillion Taruvinga, Linesman Muronzvi and ex-Archers player Jackson Ndimande are part of the 16 Bulawayo Metropolitan Province’s seeded players. The seven are expected to use their experience to guide Bulawayo to victory next month.
