Date set for Mat South cricket league launch

Sports Reporter
MATABELELAND South Cricket Association chairman Arthur Maphosa says the game is being revived in the province with the launch of a club cricket league set to start on October 17. Maphosa said cricket was a vibrant sport in the province between 2008 and 2010, but financial problems affected the game.

“We’ve had a series of club cricket games being played over the past years and our hope was that we would continue with club games, but we encountered financial problems,” said Maphosa.

“We are making all necessary arrangements to make cricket marketable in Matabeleland South and we will secure all necessary resources to see to it that it becomes a success.

“We want as much as possible to create players that will be a force to reckon with and our first initiation is to allow players to attend cricket matches that will be in Bulawayo.

“As it is we’re making preparations to go to Bulawayo and mingle with other players.”

He said they wanted Matabeleland South clubs to be feeder sides of the various national cricket teams.
