THE Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) has confirmed the Khanyisile Basketball tournament as its first major event of the season.

The tournament will run for three days from October 25 at Khanyisile Sports Centre under the theme “Dunk the drugs out”.

The tournament has been a regular feature on the BBA calendar over the past few years.

Teams that took part in last year’s competition were drawn from Bulawayo, Harare and Midlands.

BBA secretary-general Francis Dube said they are looking forward to the event and preparations were on course.

“We are excited to be hosting the third edition of the Khanyisile Tournament. We are grateful to the sponsors for giving a thumbs up to the tournament again this season. The theme “Dunk the Drugs Out” is a call to fight against drug and substance abuse by the youth. At BBA, we get excited by such programmes.

“Tournaments like this go a long way in aiding the development of basketball in the country.

“It is such competitions that we unearth our future stars and players to represent our national teams. This is testimony that the Bulawayo Basketball Association is doing a sterling job in developing basketball in the city,” said Dube.

Meanwhile, BBA will hold its annual general meeting on Saturday as it begins plans for the forthcoming 2024/25 season.

All clubs will be represented as they come up with fixtures and budgets for the year. BBA has the Elite League, Women’s League, Men’s B League and Men’s C League.
