Speaking at a function to hand over the certificate, Standards Association of Zimbabwe director-general Mrs Eve Gadzikwa said the certification would ensure production of quality products.
“Certification is not an end in itself but a means to an end. It is about providing a good experience to customers when they use high quality products and services which companies produce in a consistent manner over a period of time.
“This certification is testimony that Datlabs is indeed committed to seeing a better tomorrow for Zimbabwe,” she said.
Mrs Gadzikwa said certification of the company would increase its market share.
“Economic benefits of implementing ISO 9001:2008 include confidence among consumers, competitiveness, access to export markets and income from foreign trade,” she said.
She said the local pharmaceutical industry was vital since it could lower prices of products.
“The local sector can improve the availability of drugs, give protection to counterfeit and substandard drugs, create employment as well as scientific and technological development,” she said
Datlabs marketing director Mr Clever Mugadza said the certification was a guide to quality products.
“It reinforces standard products continually on a profitable course,” he said.
The pharmaceutical industry in Zimbabwe is second only to South Africa in the region in terms of development and sophistication and exports to markets in Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi and West Indies. Established in 1954, Datlabs (Private) Limited is a South African company with a product range which includes
medicines such as Solphyllex, Asalen and Panado.
It also manufactures and distributes health and personal care products like camphor cream, lanolene and Cafemol. — New Ziana.
