THE 2014 Soccer Star of the Year Dennis Dauda is staying put at ZPC Kariba where he is going to see off the remainder of his contract which expires at the end of this year.
Dauda had been at loggerheads with his club and sought an early release from his employers, accusing them of being unprofessional. He even went for trials in Azerbaijan last month without his club’s blessings. However, ZPC Kariba asked Dauda to buy out his contract by paying them $20 000 and that is when the defender decided to stay at the club.
The 26-year-old last night confirmed that he is no longer moving away from last season’s runners-up and instead he will see off what is remaining of the agreement he has with the club. He was quick to point out though that he is not happy with his further stay in Kariba because circumstances have forced him not to move away.
“I am staying at ZPC Kariba to finish my contract but I am not happy. They were saying I have to buy out my contract with $20 000,’’ said Dauda last night.
ZPC Kariba spokesperson Fadzai Chisveto yesterday could only say the player was back with the club without elaborating.
“Dauda is back with ZPC Kariba FC,’’ said Chisveto.
Last season’s surprise package who went for 19 games unbeaten have already lost some of their key players from that fairytale run. These are goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga, Obey Mwerahari, Peter Muzondo, Limited Chikafa as well as Ephraim Mwinga and were not keen to release another star player.
Dauda starts training with his teammates in Kariba on Tuesday which should pave way for him to be registered by the club for this season.
