ZIMBABWE’S Davis Cup team players are set to add gloss to the Emakhandeni Tennis Open with an exhibition match tomorrow morning.
The duo of Mehluli Sibanda and Takanyi Garanganga will square off as they seek to inspire upcoming stars in the game.
The tournament that involves youngsters aged between 10 and 18 kicks off this morning at Girls College.
Sibanda said they took advantage of all the players being present in the country at the same time to hold the exhibition match.
“It is something that we had been hoping to do but unfortunately have not been in the country at the same time, so when we realised we will be available we decided to organise the match.
“It is unfortunate Courtney Lock is not available but he had agreed to take part,” he said.
Sibanda said they are hoping the match will inspire the youngsters as they get to see the country’s top players in action.
“We hope they will take a leaf from us and maybe realise how much they have to pull and learn a few tricks of the game,” he added.
The exhibition match will see the two aces squaring off in a singles match and then incorporate young players in the doubles match.
Over 80 players have registered to take part in the three-day tournament.
