Changing Perspectives
Many times in life many people do not realise the impact of something until the impact is experienced.
When it comes to impact, what matters the most is the results of doing something more than the period in which it is performed. When we count days, it all starts by counting one day which then leads to days, weeks, months and years. The impact of one day produces many other days.
Day one simply means the first day. In other words, day one is the beginning, the introduction or the birthing of something.
When you take a day as day one, it probably means that you are working on something but, taking it as
one day may imply that you are reluctant to work on things because you still have many other days to consider.
Let’s talk about the future. I believe that we all look to the future with great anticipation that things will go well and we will enjoy life. Do you realise that the better tomorrow that we hope for starts with day one, which then becomes weeks, months and years?
Many of us are already in the future that we used to look forward to but, we do not realise it because it is not yet what we want, hence we keep hoping for a better future. A good number of us think and believe that a better future is coming, yet without intentionally doing something about it.
Let us consider 10 years for example. Imagine where you were 10 years ago and begin to see if you are not yet in the future that you used to talk about . imagine if you are for40 years today, this means that 10 years ago you were 30 years old.
Others say that life begins at 40. Is that really the case especially if you do not do something about it? I have come across many people who got disappointed when they turned 40 and nothing happened until they realized that their 40s was really going away yet, without anything tangible to refer to. You need to work towards the future that you desire by taking the necessary action.
One of the challenges in many organisations is that of higher expectations from both management and subordinates yet, none of the two groups takes time to consider certain basics sometimes. For instant, management expects better performance and great profits and business growth in the future. Employees on the other hand, expect higher salaries and more benefits. Interestingly if you analyse both side you may find out that no one is really taking time to consider the strategies at hand and probably the resources at hand to see if they are sufficient enough to bring about the desired future. I have witnessed many organisations losing good talent and on the other hand I have witnessed many employees losing jobs simply because expectations were not being met. Both management and employees should take time to bring minds together and discuss the kind of future that they both anticipate and desire, then put ideas together on how to get there.
Management should be transparent with available resources and teams should be transparent about what they are able to do. One of the reasons that causes frustration is unmet promises. Management may promise greener pastures that do not get fulfilled, and employees may also promise a certain level of production that may never be met.
Successful businesses are a result of deliberate efforts. Facts need to be tackled with intentionality. For example, it may be a fact that the business is undercapitalised. Being honest about it will inspire teams when doing their work. For instance, the organisation may employ teams that may be willing to accept allowances only until a certain time when things improve, then they get compensated.
I know of a man who once started the a bank. Sadly, things did not go according to plan. He once shared something very important. He had during its birthing early days. That time the management at the company were frank with him about their financial challenges and were not able to pay him. He then agreed to receive an allowance until things improved. When things got better, he got a payment that changed his life.
I would like to challenge all of us to look back to 10 years and to see if you are in the future that you anticipated back then. If not, begin now, take today as your
day one and begin to do something about the next upcoming 10 years. If you are in the future that you desired, then be deliberate to maintain or to keep doing better. Many of us lose opportunities due to overlooking the impact that one day can make in our lives. Do not take each day for granted. Be inspired to make the most out of each day, maximise opportunities and everything else you have to produce the best out of it.
