THE Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has embarked on stakeholder consultative meetings and awareness campaigns on the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) programme in Harare South, Beatrice Court and Chitungwiza Magistrates Court.
So far, eight provinces have been covered. JSC Secretary Mr Walter Chikwanha chaired the interactive sessions on Monday and highlighted that the IECMS will be launched on December 31 this year.
He said the system will be fully operational from January 1.
“Our website is free, no need for payment, just press www.zimiecms.org.zw to get registered,” he said.
He said the system has more advantages for the judiciary as it will ease the burden of travelling to the courts by litigants, reduce paperwork, lessen corrupt activities, improve efficiency and reduce operational costs, among others.
“Never again after December 31 will you travel all the way from your homesteads or deliver physical documents to the clerk of court. You can make payment in the comfort of your home and office,” he said.
He urged stakeholders and JSC staff to utilise the system and not to shy away from new technologies brought by the internet.
Stakeholders were educated on how they can register for the system and were assured of their safety.
Government ministries, traditional leaders and community members attended the meeting.
In an interview, Headman Aaron Maumbe of Matiti Village in Seke said the programme was important in reducing corruption because it removes face-to-face interaction.
“There were engagements between litigants and JSC staff that were causing corruption around the courts,” he said.
Headman Onias Muswaka of Ward 4 East, Seke, said the IECMS will reduce the transport burden as most litigants have been complaining about high transport costs to the courts.
