DDF boats in Lake Kariba set for refurb

District Development Fund boats which help in linking Kariba Town, fishing camps and Nyaminyami are set to be installed with new engines and undergo refurbishment.

The boats including the Chaminuka Ferry which can carry vehicles, baggage and people is set to have two engines installed at a cost of $40 000 while the deck is set for a re-do.

Speaking during a tour of the boats, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet ((Administration and Finance) Dr Martin Rushwaya said the move was aimed at improving accessibility in Kariba district.

“We are here to assess the state of the boats while at the same time we have started work on the refurbishment of our ferry called Chaminuka which has served us well for a long time now,” said Dr Rushwaya.

“A contractor has started work on the refurbishment of the boats starting with Chaminuka. We want three boats to be operational, so that people will travel comfortably.”
