Villagers here are not happy with the District Development Fund (DDF), which they accuse of failing to rehabilitate roads and boreholes across the Limpopo Valley.
They said some roads in Chikombedzi are in a state of disrepair due to neglect.
Indications are that DDF last repaired some of the roads nearly two decades ago.
Most parts of Chikombedzi also grapple with lack of potable water as boreholes across the area are either malfunctioning or no longer produce water for a variety of reasons.
DDF cites financial hardships for its failure to repair roads and boreholes that have spawned severe transport and water shortages across Chikombedzi.
A tour by The Herald here revealed that only Chiredzi Rural District Council (CRDC) and the Department of Roads were on the ground repairing some roads, with the DDF missing in action.
CRDC chair Alderman Edward Matsilele yesterday said villagers were blaming the local authority for failure to service roads, yet the district’s roads were serviced by different authorities.
“As Chiredzi Rural District Council, we are trying our best in terms of servicing the roads which fall under our jurisdiction.
“It is unfortunate that road authorities are many; we also have DDF and the Department of Roads, who are also responsible for road repairs,” said Alderman Matsilele.
