BRENDON de Jonge showed glimpses of his quality when he finished 11th at the Deutsche Bank Championship at the TPC Boston course on the US PGA Tour at the weekend. The Zimbabwean had firm control of the tournament during the opening round, but found the going tough during the business end of the tourney.However, his 22nd place, which should be a disappointment given where he was in the first half of the battle, was enough to give him a cool $85 800.
He came into the Deutsche Bank Championship having missed his last two cuts but recovered well to book his ninth top 25 finish of the season.
After taking the opening round lead, De Jonge must have fancied his chances of his breakthrough win on the US PGA circuit.
But that wasn’t to be despite putting himself into contention at the halfway stage.
“As I said, I’ve been struggling for a while. I was hoping (Friday’s) score sort of helped me turn that corner,” said De Jonge.
Of course, that wasn’t to be and, still, he chases on, hoping to strike gold and win his first tour title in the United States.
