AFTER missing out in the first three major golf championships of the year, US-based Zimbabwean professional golfer Brendon De Jonge finally made his 20 cut of the season at the PGA Championships at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York over the weekend. The PGA Championship, which was the final major of the golf season after the Masters, the US Open and the British Open Championship, was played from Thursday to Sunday at the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford
De Jonge carded 71, 71, 71 and returned with a 70 on Sunday to make the cheque after four rounds.
The prize fund for the tournament was a whopping $8 million with a first prize payout of $1 445 000 plus 600 FedEx Cup ranking points for the winner.
The reigning Sportsperson of the Year went home US$38 570 richer.
De Jonge, whose form has improved this season has only missed the cut five times out of 25 attempts.
The PGA Championship attracted 156 players and the Zimbabwean managed to make it to the final two rounds.
De Jonge was tied with Peter Hanso, Martin Kaymer, Paul Casey, Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari and Lee Westwood.
