ZIMBABWE’S USPGA player Brendon de Jonge made his second consecutive cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Golf tournament at the TPS Scottsdale, Arizona, United States, over the weekend.
The former Wingate player went home US$50 000 rich for his performance.
The country’s leading golfer finished the first round in the top ten after an impressive performance. De Jonge went into Sunday’s final round sitting on four-under-par which he managed two improve by two strokes. In the Championship Tour, Nick Price was part of the field that played in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. The Zimbabwean legend finished the event on two-under-par after the three rounds carding 72, 72 and 70. The event had a US$1,8 million with a winning share of US$309 000, which was won by Jimenez Miguel on 17-under-par. The Spaniard rallied to win the event after a one-stroke victory over Mark O’Meara. The event was the season-opening tournament for the on the 50-and-over tour.
