De Jonge tees of at Humana Challenge

action for an event that will be played at three different courses.
De Jonge was set to start alongside Cameron Tringale, Josh Teater and Chris Stroud around midday in the United States.

The four started off with the longest course of the three, the La Quinta Country Club, which has a yardage of 7 060m.

The other two courses to be used will be the Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus private courses.
The event has US$5,6 million in prize money with the winner walking away US$US1 million richer.
Meanwhile, the field of the Mashonaland East and West inter-provincial strokeplay women golf competition to be held at Ruwa tomorrow took shape yesterday with several players confirming their availability.

A total of 40 players had confirmed their availability when the draw was held.
The event will be the first high-profile tournament for this season’s Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union calendar.

Patricia Makurumure and Connie Mashiri, who make up the organising committee that represents the provinces, said they were looking forward to a big event and the players were raring to go.

“We expect high levels of competition at the event as several players were practising during the off-season and they have confirmed their participation.

“The event is big as it carries the order of merit points, which are very vital for every competitive golf player.

“Last year the event was run by the union but this year there is an organising committee.
“The event will be a two-day 18 hole competition  which will bring together all players from Championship, A, B and C Divisions.

“The provinces to take part are Harare, Manicaland, Matabelaland, Midlands, Mashonaland East and West.

“Mash East will comprise Ruwa and Marondera as Mash West has Norton, Chegutu, Kadoma and Chinhoyi while Manicaland will be Mutare, Triangle and Hippo Valley.

“The Midlands province will have players from Gweru, Kwekwe and Zvishavane,” the committee said.
Makurumure, who is based at the host course, said they were very happy with the conditions of the course.

Meanwhile, local professional and amateur golf players are finding the tough going at the Sunshine Tour qualifying school as only the unheralded Sheldon Steyn is still with a great chance of making it.

Steyn finished the second round in ninth place after scoring a 68 and 71 for a five-under-par after the two rounds. Scott Ferguson was on one under while 2011 Zambezi Tour order of merit leader, Ignatious Mketekete, was one-over.

Greg Bentley and amateur Bradley Hudson were on six-over while Kayyam Mandhu finished seven-over and Nabeel Umjie was a distant nine-over-par.
