BRENDON de Jonge will make history by joining the elite class of local golfers when he takes part in the President Cup which tees off at Marfield Course, Ohio, United States today.
The Zimbabwean who grew up emulating Nick Price will be in the international team that is being captained by Price, while another Zimbabwean Tony Johnstone will be the assistant captain.
At 33, the burly Zimbabwean is making strides that may see him get to the levels which Price, arguably the best golf player to emerge from Zimbabwe, reached.
Price has three majors on his back and played in several President Cup events before he started to turn up in the senior’s tour. De Jonge, who has already written his own piece of history by playing in the 56th edition of the Golf World Cup at Mission Hills in Southern China 2011 along with Bruce McDonald, will however, start as an underdog as he will play Haas in the opening match.
