JUNIOR Sables coach Shaun De Souza has announced a bloated Under-20 national team high performance training squad.

The team is preparing for the 2024 edition of the Barthes Trophy which will be hosted by Zimbabwe in April.

“We have selected 80 players deliberately for purposes of continuation. We have incorporated an academy into the squad which has most players under the age of 18. Once we lose some of the senior players these will then easily take over making a smooth continuation process. We have quite a number of talented players in this squad and l must say it’s been exciting to work with them. We have the Barthes Trophy coming and it will be exciting to hunt for that third title in front of our home fans,” said De Souza.

Organised by Rugby Africa, the Barthes Under-20 Trophy is the official African Rugby Championship for national teams in the age bracket.
