WHEN it comes to unforgettable entertainment memories in Mutare, one name stands out— especially during the diamond rush era.
After a long week of hard work in the mineshafts of Chiadzwa, various industries and workplaces, many would eagerly seek out for the energetic and captivating Juicer Mpostori.
Whether it was Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, people flocked to his performances, knowing they were in for an electrifying experience.
Juicer Mpostori’s favourite hunting grounds included popular spots like Chapter One, Cannibal, Pavilion Sports Bar (Mutare), Club Oasis (Zimunya Township), Piki, Tops Bottle Store (Dangamvura) and Mandala (Mpudzi Business Centre), where his presence was always a spectacle.
He had an undeniable charm, commanding the stage, and captivating the crowd with his infectious energy and charismatic performance.
Known for hit songs like Katurike, Kadhanzi, Newe, Kamunakiro, Benitah, Zvinhuzvacho, and Dangerous, Juicer Mpostori became an icon in the local music scene.
His performances were, not just ordinary, they were full-blown celebrations, drawing people from all walks of life to dance, sing, and make memories together. His music, filled with rhythm and life, remains etched in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to witness his magic live.
Twenty-seven years later, Weekender Entertainment, recently caught up with the legendary artiste in Eastlea, Harare where he is now based.
Contrary to the rumours circulating on the social media, claiming that the energetic performer had passed away earlier this month in Mozambique, the vibrant dancer is alive and kicking.
“It is unfortunate that maybe because of my long silence, some people chose to spread lies that I passed away in Mozambique,” he said.
He is now venturing into mining in Harare.
He is now married with three kids, and working on a yet-to-be-christened new project which will contain songs such as Kufira Rudo, Gusheshe and Zvinonetsa. He last released songs such as Copacabana, Good Yangu, Maria and Mumwe Wangu in 2021.
He last did live shows in Glendale and Chitungwiza, although he is now spending more time working under the mine.
He is, however, ready to take on the new era of music and leave an unforgettable imprint once again.
He acknowledged that his iconic old and unique beats no longer hold the same appeal they once did, as trends have shifted and new sounds have taken over.
However, he says he is embracing the challenge and is raring to go, planning to release fresh tracks that will resonate with today’s audience, while staying true to his roots.
“Things have changed, and the music scene has evolved, but that is the beauty of it. I am ready to adapt and offer something new. I am not here to replicate the past, but to make a new impact,” he said, exuding the same passion and energy that made him a household name during the diamond rush era.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Juicer Mpostori is looking forward to making a grand comeback, confident that his new music will connect with both long-time fans and a new generation of listeners.
Despite the challenges, he is optimistic about reclaiming his place in the spotlight, proving that the timeless magic of his stage presence is far from over.
