INTEREST in the annual Albun Honde Valley Marathon has continued growing since its inception and this year’s edition is expected to be no exception, with the ongoing registration for 2026 race pointing to another thrilling outing in the picturesque Eastern Highlands.
Organisers of the event said since registration opened, there has been an overwhelming interest from both new and old participants to be part of the event; which will be held on November 21.
Alois Bunjira, the brains behind the marathon, said they are finalising the registration process as preparations hit top gear.
“Registration is underway and this marks part of the 2026 Albun Honde Valley Marathon preparations. The slots are being taken up very fast and almost running out. This shows huge appetite for the event by prospective participants. Registration is set to close next Tuesday (November 10), but it may actually be earlier as soon as we top the cap of the required number of 2 000 participants. Last year we had 2 300 runners,” said the former CAPS United star.
Bunjira, who traces his roots to Honde Valley, added that the preparations have so far been seamless.
“Preparations are continuing as we set the stage and everyone is excited about the prospects of another successful event. This Friday we are having a stakeholders meeting there in Honde Valley just to polish up and ensure that everything is in place for the big day. We are looking forward to hosting a bigger and event this year,” he said.
The ex-Warriors forward added that more corporate partners are coming on board.
“First Mutual Microfinance are our new main sponsor after the withdrawal of NetOne. More corporate entities are also partnering us for the marathon and our goal is to ensure that everyone, from the sponsors to the runners, get full value for being part of this event.
Participants will compete in the 5km fun run, the 10km, 21km and 42km races, with categories for the juniors (under 20 years), veterans (40-49 years), Masters (50-59 years) and Grandmasters (over 60 years).
