POLICE should execute their duties diligently and must bring to book all perpetrators of violence during this election period, the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, has said. She said if the police fail to act on politically motivated violence, the Government would intervene as the new dispensation was calling for peace.
Cde Mutsvangwa was speaking in Mhandarume, Chimanimani West, while drumming up support for Zanu-PF candidate Cde Nokhutula Matsikenyere.
“We do not want violence especially among the youths,” she said.
“Whenever some members of the opposition or anyone approaches you trying to provoke you, please retreat and report that person to the police. We want the police to act on such cases and failure to diligently act on that, would now call for my office as Minister of State to act upon such police officers.”
Cde Mutsvangwa also urged civil servants to execute their duties diligently and take a leaf from the President by reporting for work on time.
She also urged people to shun violence and concentrate on development.
“The President is saying we need peace. It never happened before in this country to have 23 candidates vying for presidency. It is a sign that our President is serious with issues to do with peace. He wants peace and unity.
“President Mnangagwa is saying let us focus on the economy. He is saying let us unite and build our nation. We want a country with hospitals, employment because we want our children to be employed in industries. President is saying we do not want corruption. We need our roads to be resurfaced, we need well-equipped clinics with nurses,” she said.
Cde Mutsvangwa said those who want to perpetrate violence are calling for retrogression when everyone is calling for development.
She said people should silence critics and other foreign election observers who are bent on spreading negatives on Zimbabwe by voting peacefully on July 30.
