A Blanket Mine employee died in a tragic accident linked to secondary blasting at the gold mine in Gwanda, leaving the mining community in shock and mourning.
The mine’s parent company, Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc, confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing sorrow over the fatality and pledging a full investigation.
“It is with regret that Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc reports that an accident took place on September 22, 2025, at the Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe, as a result of which one Blanket Mine employee lost his life,” reads the statement.
The company said the accident was connected to secondary blasting, a process carried out to break down large rocks after the initial explosion.
“The company’s immediate priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved and to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this accident,” read the statement.
Caledonia emphasised that no further information could be released until authorities complete their inquiry into the tragedy.
“Caledonia expresses its condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased,” said the company.
