A MAN from Fort Rixon has been arrested for allegedly attacking his niece with an axe following a misunderstanding after he asked her to pay him money he was owed by her husband.

Bhekithemba Moyo (31) allegedly also punched Ms Thokozani Sibanda (22) of the same area several times.

Moyo pleaded not guilty to attempted murder when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Mafios Moyo.

The magistrate remanded him out of custody on $100 bail to November 3.

Prosecuting, Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa said on August 28 at around 11AM, Moyo went to Ms Sibanda’s house looking for the woman’s husband but he was not home.

“The accused person approached the complainant asking for money he was owed by her husband,” he said.

The court heard that a misunderstanding arose and Moyo allegedly picked up an axe and struck Ms Sibanda once on the head.

“The complainant sustained a deep cut on the head,” Mr Manyiwa said.

Moyo allegedly further punched Ms Sibanda on the face.

The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene leading to Moyo’s arrest.
