Debt collector turns villain

to theft when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who remanded him in custody to November 22.
Prosecutor Ms Junior Mugebe alleges that Kamanura was employed at the law firm as a debt collection clerk. It is alleged his duties, among others were to collect money from debtors on behalf of the firm.
Between January this year and July Kamanura collected US$14 350 from the firm’s debtors and converted it to his own use instead of remitting it to the firm, it is alleged.
To cover up for the offence, it is alleged, Kamanura issued the debtors with fake receipts purporting they had been issued from the law firm’s offices. The offence came to light on August 30 when one of the debtors received court papers from the law firm indicating he had defaulted payment, it is alleged.
The client allegedly indicated that he had been paying directly to the law firm.
Nothing was recovered after his arrest.
