A 55-YEAR-OLD granny allegedly detained two women at her home after they demanded that she pays back a $1,982 loan advanced to her daughter that she had guaranteed. Clara Mudyamatimba appeared before Western Commonage provincial magistrate Maphios Moyo charged with unlawful detention and she pleaded guilty.
The court heard that on June 3, Enesia Mucheredza and Patience Enock visited Mudyamatimba’s house to collect money that her daughter had borrowed from their burial society.
Mudyamatimba had signed an affidavit promising to pay the money on behalf of her daughter on April 10.
Prosecuting Kingstone Mukanganwi said on the fateful day, Mucheredza and Enock visited Mudyamatimba and explained the purpose of their visit.
Mudyamatimba instead of paying the money allegedly detained the pair for four hours.
“The two complainants begged Mudyamatimba to release them but she refused,” said Mukanganwi.
He said Mudyamatimba told the complainants that she was going to release them the following day when her husband returned from Gweru.
“Enock telephoned her mother who then reported the case to the police leading to the pair’s release and the arrest of Mudyamatimba,” said Mukanganwi.
Mudyamatimba who is out on free bail, was remanded to June 10.
