FORMER Warriors and Chicken Inn captain Danny “Deco” Phiri, has signed for ambitious Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision, ending his short stint with Central Region outfit, Gwanda Pirates.

Phiri, one of Zimbabwe’s most decorated midfielders, joined Gwanda Pirates earlier this year after leaving Chicken Inn.
His arrival at Talen Vision is being hailed as a major coup for the Bulawayo-based club.

“I can confirm that Danny Phiri is now our player. He has put pen to paper on a one year contract,” said Talen Vision chairman, Elton Sinyosi.

“We are very happy to have such an experienced player in our team. His contract will be reviewed at the beginning of next year.”

The 35-year-old made his name at Chicken Inn, where his commanding displays in defensive midfield helped the Gamecocks to their maiden Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in 2015. That season, he was voted Castle Lager Soccer Star of the

Year, standing out alongside the likes of Tafadzwa Kutinyu, Clemence Matawu, Lawrence Mhlanga, and George Majika.
Phiri earned regular Warriors call-ups, including for the Africa Cup of Nations, before securing a move to South Africa’s

Golden Arrows in 2016. He went on to make 97 appearances for Abafana Bes’thende in all competitions, playing alongside fellow Zimbabweans Kudakwashe Mahachi, Devine Lunga, and Knox Mutizwa.

He returned home in 2023 to join Bulawayo Chiefs, later reuniting with Chicken Inn, but was released at the start of this year alongside goalkeeper Pride Zendera, whose next move remains unknown.

For Talen Vision, Phiri’s arrival signals intent as they push for a spot in the Premier Soccer League. For the veteran midfielder, it’s another chapter in a career built on consistency, leadership, and a knack for influencing games from deep in midfield.
