A Zeplin Mine employee in Mvuma on Tuesday discovered a decomposing male body as he was checking water levels in a 30-metre mineshaft.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
“The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 2pm.”
Inspector Mahoko said Maxwell Mutakura was pumping water from the shaft when he discovered the body, which was partly submerged.
He said the matter was reported to the police and the body was taken to Mvuma Hospital for a post-mortem.
“We are appealing to members of the public who might be missing a relative to come forward and help identify this body,” he said.
There had not been any mining operations at the shaft since the beginning of the rainy season.
