THE kitchen is the heart of a home, especially at Christmas, so it deserves to be dressed up for the festivities.
Kitchen lighting
The kitchen is the first place where most people gather as a family, so we need to ensure it feels festive. The following are some of the easiest ways of decorating your kitchen: adding ribbons or greenery to any pendant lighting or chandeliers, filling your vessels with holiday-inspired greenery and stems, and filling any fruit bowls with holiday-coloured fruit.
Switch out your accessories
Switching out your towels and oven mitts for the holidays sounds cliché, but we think it is a really simple and practical way of bringing in some festive colours and prints. They do not have to be gaudy — a lovely plaid towel or even a stipe can inject a festive feel. This can be something you do early on in the holiday season too.
Place scented Christmas candles with holiday fragrances on the kitchen counter. Scents like cinnamon, pine or gingerbread are a great way of infusing the holiday spirit.
Decorate with evergreen
This is again something you can do early on to give your kitchen a hint of the holidays.
Plus, it can be a free way of decorating your kitchen for Christmas. Get into your own backyard and see what evergreen you can salvage to decorate shelving or to create a large display that will have a Christmas centrepiece with foliage.
Create displays with seasonal flowers
A vase of beautiful flowers on kitchen countertops can add a tasteful touch of Christmas. A display of white blooms with some darker greenery mixed in makes for a very chic and sophisticated festive addition.
Pick colour scheme that works with your kitchen design
When it comes to ramping up decor from a few festive flourishes to full-on Christmas, do consider the kitchen colour scheme and style. You want whatever vibe you are after to work with your space, just as you would in the rest of your home. Plus, think about how you use the space. For example, if the island is in constant use, that is not the best place to decorate, so consider hanging things above it or decorate kitchen shelving that is up and out of the way, instead.
Hang wreath
Wreaths instantly give a Christmas feel to a space, but they should not just be used for the front door. They look wonderful hung above a mantle or above a stove in a kitchen to add a flourish of festiveness. We do love the idea of a Christmas tree in a kitchen, but they take up a lot of space, so it is not always the most practical decision. A wreath takes up zero floor space and still gives that Christmassy focal point.
Adorn shelves
Those often unused surface areas are perfect for adding Christmas decor to a kitchen as they are usually spaces reserved for more aesthetic purposes, anyway. String these spots with fairy lights and add some greenery or just add a few small decorations in your crockery and cookbooks. — homesandgardens
