Bulawayo hip hop star, ASAPH Afrika has become the first local based artiste to be signed by the prestigious Def Jam Recordings Africa.
The stable is home to some of Africa’s music powerhouses including Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Larry Gaga, Tellaman, Boity and Zimbabwean born rapper Nadia Nakai.
Def Jam announced the news on its social media pages: “We officially welcome Zimbabwe’s finest AsaphAfrika to the Def Jam Recordings Africa family. We are extremely excited to create even more legendary music with you.”
In an interview with The Herald, Asaph said being recognised internationally was a huge achievement.
“It is a huge achievement being recognised by Def Jam, I’m excited to finally discover the course of my music career. Now with the backing of such a big label, I will go far,” he said.
ASAPH said he was currently working on a couple of singles and collaborations with some artists across the continent.
“I am currently working on a couple of singles. I will be having few collaborations with some great artists across the continent.
“As a Zimbabwean this really feels like the beginning of a new era where artists can dream, work hard and believe that it will amount to something tangible,” ASAPH said.
“No one believed we could do this with hip hop but I’m doing it now,”he said.
ASAPH said his music was inspired by his everyday life, the things he sees, experience and think about.
