Deketeke lands top Zimpapers post

A career journalist, Mr Deketeke has worked for Zimpapers for the past 24 years starting off as a junior reporter with The Sunday Mail and rising through the ranks to the position of Group Editor-in-Chief in 2009.
Mr Deketeke has been spearheading the growth of the company’s newspaper operations with the launch of three additional newspapers and two magazines.

Zimpapers – which is listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange – is the country’s biggest media company with interests in the printing and publishing industry.
The company publishes four daily newspapers – The Herald, Chronicle, H-Metro and B-Metro; three weeklies – The Sunday Mail, Sunday News and Manica Post; two vernacular newspapers – Kwayedza and uMthunywa and the regional Southern Times, which is a joint venture with Namibia’s New Era.

Zimpapers chairman Dr Paul Chimedza said Mr Deketeke was expected to spearhead the group’s continued growth by opening new and regional markets for the listed company’s products as well as creating new business opportunities.

Mr Deketeke is married with four children and is a Christian.

He is a former chairman of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe and currently sits on the board of Namzim Newspapers (Proprietor) Limited and the Regional Adjudication Committee of the Sadc Media Awards.
He is also a fitness and weight training enthusiast.
