“GMB is delaying payments to farmers and to us that is a cause for concern because we expect farmers to be at an advanced stage of preparing for the forthcoming farming season.
“If they do not have funds, there is no way they would get inputs and others have debts to settle so the situation becomes difficult for them,” said Mr Hungwe.
He said some farmers were yet to receive their payments for last season’s grain.
Mr Hungwe applauded the Government’s efforts to support farmers by availing a credit facility to help them during the 2012/13 farming season.
“We are very happy with the Government’s support and if it continues like this, we can uplift agriculture to be the national economic backbone again,” he said.
Mr Hungwe said the rainy season was about to start and urged farmers to be geared for it.
He said their intention this farming season was to see production increase and encouraged farmers to grow crops appropriate for their natural regions.
