Delightful Decor: Turn your bachelor pad into a stylish retreat

.
EVERY bachelor or bachelorette finds it a daunting task to turn their “newly” acquired bachelor pad into the ultimate stylish retreat . . . . this is made so by the fact that they would have just moved out of a fully furnished home to fend for themselves and build their own homes.

Well, fear not as there are a number of home decor boutiques that provide the best advice on how to turn your little drab nest into a classy one.

In this week’s column I take you on a step by step journey into turning your home into a cozy retreat, where you can hang with friends.

Many people have passed through bachelorhood where the experience is quite electrifying, a phase where they acquire property in the form of furniture and appliances.

Some may have passed through that phase while there are still quite a number stuck in that phase for one reason or the other, despite that I did manage to get a few notes on how to turn your tiny home into a warm and cozy palace.

Having a tackily decorated or messy home is a deal-breaker for most singles, so I was told by a sales rep from Fourways Home Centre right here in the City of Kings.

“If you are a bachelor the best way to impress your mates and of course the ladies is to spruce your home. Many relationships dangle because their partners are unimpressed with their home or living conditions.

“In other words, you could be single and dateless because your home isn’t up to scratch,” explained Willard Banda a sales representative from the shop.

“But fear not, you can turn your home or room, as is the case with most bachelors or bachelorettes in Zimbabwe, by investing in a few simple and affordable tweaks — most of them can be done just in one day,” he said, pointing to an every bachelor and bachelorette must have — a sleeper couch.

“If you suspect your pad or room might be working against you, here are a few ways to fix that:

“Add a dash of sophistication by adding some colour. Show your true colours by adding romantic shades to walls and furnishings. You can add classic wall clocks or wall paintings, as well as stand-alone vases. Get these home accessories in tones that create an intimate, moody ambience and enhance the home.

Bachelors are always guilty of smelly homes (smelly feet and shoes), why not add some alluring scents to your home.

Scents are strongly linked to romance, and can be used to provoke sensual feelings.

“Get a fragrant candle or diffuser to make sure the scent of love is in the air,” said William.

You can also turn your home into a little art museum by adding interesting artifacts on your walls.

Bare walls spell bachelor pad, so throw up some artwork to make your space feel like a home.

Also seeing as you live in an open space environment, where your lounge is your bedroom, you would want to invest in good linen and blankets.

Since most bachelors can’t afford a couch or sofas the best or tactical thing to invest in as I mentioned earlier is to invest in a sleeper couch.

You can turn it into the best spot in the house by getting colourful throws and cushions to breathe instant life into it.

Till next time.
