A Delta Beverages employee from Cold Stream in Chinhoyi will perform 350 hours of community service for stealing money from his employer.

Brian Widza (40), who was employed as an administration clerk at Delta Beverages Chinhoyi branch, pleaded guilty to a theft of trust property charge before Chinhoyi magistrate Ms Jessie Kufa.

Widza was initially sentenced to 22 months in imprison, but six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour in the next five years. Six more months were suspended on condition that Widza restituted Delta Beverages $2 500 by December 25 this year.

The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition he performed 350 hours at the Zimbabwe Republic Police station in Karoi. The prosecutor, Mr Author Bosha said Delta commenced its internal audit for the Chinhoyi branch with particular interest in petty cash vouchers from January this year to August.

Tafadzwa Frank Gumbo, an assistant audit manager based at Mandel Training Centre was assigned to do the auditing at the Chinhoyi Delta Branch. It was established that Widza was abusing petty cash vouchers, claiming that he was paying Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) services. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Widza had only paid $1 890 compared to the $4 400 petty cash tokens he had requested from the company’s finance department.
