Delta to unveil PSL sponsorship today

THE Zimbabwe football family will be looking forward to the beginning of a new chapter when the Premier Soccer League announce the return of Delta Beverage as the title sponsor for the domestic championship in Harare this afternoon.
PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele yesterday said it was no longer a secret that Delta Beverages were coming back to the domestic football scene.
Delta are set to be unveiled as sponsors through their Castle Lager Brand after their last investment in football came in 2004.
The Premiership has struggled to find a corporate partner since CBZ terminated their deal two years ago and Motor Action walked away empty handed after winning the championship last season.
“It’s a great feeling and I am sure it’s the same feeling that is going through everyone in the football family that we are reuniting with our long standing partner.
“We are looking forward to a full package of sponsorship this season. We are looking at the league championship, the Charity Shield, whose proceeds go towards charity, and not only help the participants to get game time for practice but prop them up financially.
“We are also looking forward to have the Super Eight and another tournament involving 16 teams later in the season.
“We are actually looking forward to good times coming back to our stadiums because teams will have something to play for and supporters will obviously get value in terms of entertainment. The gesture by Delta Beverages should challenge other potential sponsors to come on board and support other activities,” said Ndebele.
Delta are coming back after years on the sidelines and are returning onto the big stage through their popular Castle Lager brand.
Lack of sponsorship had threatened to scupper the competitiveness of the game as several clubs struggled to fulfill fixtures under harsh operating environment while players held back their commitment owing to the deteriorating situation of their welfare.
But Ndebele said they were now looking forward to exciting times starting this season with the coming on board of Delta.
“From the family of the league. this sponsorship will be viewed in its proper perspective as branding and should open avenues for other corporates to consider coming on board.
“I am sure everyone will appreciate the value of sponsorship and will play their part to ensure mutual benefit with our sponsors.”
The new season will begin next week when champions Motor Action and Dynamos clash in the Charity Shield, with the whole fixtures programme set to roll the following week.
