Speaking at the handover ceremony, Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri said the donation would help prevent crime.
“This donation the organisation is receiving today manifests the magnanimity by the corporate world in channelling critical resources to the force. “This amply demonstrates the company’s (Delta) deep-seated and unrelenting commitment to support the ZRP’s vision of creating a crime-free society,” he said.
Commr Gen Chihuri said the ZRP had adopted a vigorous proactive policing approach to enhance police-public co-operation and improve the response to distress calls.
“It is quite gratifying to note that Delta appreciates that, the ZRP resolve to rid society of crime is being compromised by perennial budgetary constraints, hence they beheld it prudent to forge a sound partnership with the organisation in the fight against crime.
“To this end, we are, as an organisation, cognisant of the fact that, among a host donations made over the years, Delta refurbished Waterfalls Police Station and donated 132 bicycles and 164 reflective bibs in the year 2004,” he said. Commr Gen Chihuri added: “Consequently they have continued to support our efforts to fight crime by availing requisite resources, to that we are really touched and grateful.
“I would like to assure you that the organisation will reciprocate this gesture by ensuring that the highest quality service is delivered to the community.
“It is indeed self-evident that without the support of the community, the police force is like fish out of water, in this regard, the need for ZRP to forge a strong partnership with the business sector can not be overemphasised.”
Delta chief operating officer Mr Pearson Gowero said the company would benefit the communities in which they operate.
“We firmly believe that the prosperity and stability of local communities and that of our operations are inextricably linked and interdependent.
“To that end we are donating these bicycles as our contribution towards the maintenance of a stable business environment in the communities, in which the officers operate,” he said.
