AS Harare Premiership giants Dynamos bask in the joy of their confidence-boosting first league win of 2025, an extra buzz is swirling in their administrative corridors after the club’s board of directors threw their weight in the Moses Maunganidze executive committee to continue running the affairs of the side.
This comes as there had been growing speculation that the board led by veteran chairman Bernard Marriot Lusengo would wield the axe on Harare business executive Maunganidze and his crew in the coming weeks.
Dynamos ended a winless start to the season when midfielder and vice-captain Shadreck Nyahwa prodded home a second half winner to seal a narrow 1-0 win over champions Simba Bhora at Rufaro last Sunday.
Coach Lloyd Chigowe and his bunch of rookies, probably the weakest Dynamos outfit to start a season, will now head to Sakubva on Saturday for a date with Manica Diamonds with confidence in their approach.
For all their troubles, which are largely financial, Dynamos are surprisingly one of only four Premiership sides still to taste defeat with the others being leaders and 2023 champions Ngezi Platinum Stars, second-placed newboys MWOS and seventh-placed FC Platinum.
The win over Simba Bhora also saw Dynamos move into sixth place and four points shy of Ngezi who have 10. But with the platinum miners not in action until Sunday when they visit CAPS United at Rufaro, Dynamos could move to within a point of the Mhondoro-Ngezi outfit with a win over fifth-placed Manica Diamonds.
While Chigowe could afford a huge smile after their game against Simba Bhora, there has also been a sigh of relief in the club’s administration that had been gripped by some uncertainty over the executive committee’s tenure.
The Dynamos board renewed their vote of confidence in Maunganidze’s team via a statement.
Vice chairman Clemence Chimbari, treasurer, Justice Mubayi, Webster Marechera (secretary) and David Chikomo “committee member marketing and media) make up the rest of the executive.
In the statement, Marriot said he had been worried that the speculation around the future of the executive committee could hamper stability at the club and even distract the players and their coaches.
“The Dynamos Football Club (Private) Limited has noted with concern the circulation of misinformation regarding recent developments at the club at the start of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season,” read the statement.
“Board chairman, Mr Bernard Marriot Lusengo, has addressed these issues and provided clarity on the club’s plans for the 2025 season. The season has begun on a positive note, with Dynamos securing victory in the Castle Lager Challenge Cup against Simba Bhora, followed by four league matches.
“These actions are not only aimed at unsettling the administrative structure but also at distracting the playing and coaching staff from their duties,” Marriot said.
He claimed that there were some “calculated efforts to sow division within the club’s administration through sponsored falsehoods on various media platforms” and insisted that “there are no vacancies in the Dynamos FC executive committee and the current leadership remains fully committed to the club’s success.
“All the baseless claims, including allegations of financial impropriety on the part of the executive committee are entirely false.”
The Dynamos boss also noted the financial problems that have been rocking Dynamos and saw them struggle to make any impact on the transfer market, which he partly attribute to the challenging economic environment”.
“I am extremely pleased with the work of the executive committee under these difficult circumstances. Any speculation about the return of former officials or the appointment of new faces is unfounded. There are no such discussions taking place,” said Marriot.
He added: “I am aware of certain individuals approaching our stakeholders and urging them to sever ties with us. However, I am confident that the forces of good will prevail. Dynamos will continue to stand tall as the biggest football institution in Zimbabwe.”
Marriot also paid tribute to energy giants Sakunda Holdings for standing by Dynamos.
“Our relationship with Sakunda Holdings has been fantastic, and I am confident in its continued success. The executive committee has handled this partnership with the utmost transparency and professionalism.
“Dynamos’ participation in CAF competitions is a testament to the club’s adherence to all required standards, including the submission of audited accounts. Furthermore, the club is fully compliant with CAF registration requirements, which include maintaining a vibrant junior development structure and a ladies’ team (Dynamos Queens), as part of our commitment to holistic football development.
“To the fans, we will be rolling out more fan-engagement activities throughout the season. Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for standing with us.” Marriot said.
After missing out on acquiring a top-notch striker to date, Dynamos would now be hoping that their upstarts will not crumble while they seek to identify and lure more seasoned players.
In-form skipper Emmanuel Jalai could also be a target of more monied clubs at home and outside the country’s borders and retaining him would require better coffers for Dynamos.
