In an interview with Chronicle Sport on the sidelines of the Castle Lager Premier League Soccer Stars banquet in Harare on Friday, the midfielder said the team also lacks the necessary depth to dance with the best of the continent.
“If I had my way, I would not have registered the team for Africa because I feel we are not good enough. The potential is definitely there no doubt about that but that potential might not be good enough for where we are going,” said Maringwa.
He said a team good enough to take the best in Africa should set that standard on the local scene and no boardroom decisions should influence the destiny of the title.
“I am Dynamos through and through, my blood is blue but I also face reality, no matter how painful it might be. That case against Hwange could have gone either way, meaning Highlanders could have been crowned champions at our expense because no disciplinary committee ever sat. Africa is not boys’ play but it’s for real men,” said the highly-respected Dynamos veteran.
Dynamos and Highlanders ended the season level on points, at 69 but the Glamour Boys won the championship by virtue of a superior goal difference having been held by a relegated Hardbody at Ascot Stadium on the last day of the season. Bosso dispatched another relegated side, Blue Rangers 2-0 at Gwanzura Stadium.
