DeMbare resume survival battle

AILING giants Dynamos invested considerable time working on their finishing during the FIFA international break and coach Saul Chaminuka believes it is time their efforts get rewarded as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League action returns this weekend.

The Glamour Boys, who are win-less in their last 10 games, have a date against Bikita Minerals at Gibbo tomorrow.

Their ineptitude in front of goal has been the biggest letdown this season and Chaminuka believes the tide will turn once their strike force clicks.

“We are prepared well. Our target as a team is that we score at least more than once and that should start this weekend,” said Chaminuka.

The Glamour Boys have been poor in front of goal and have a paltry four goals to show in 14 games.

During the same period, they have only managed one win and conceded 10 times.

This has been a cause for sleepless nights within the DeMbare family.

“We are going to face Bikita, and we are going to play an attacking kind of football,’’ Chaminuka said.

“Not to say Bikita are a weak opposition, but we are also looking at our position.

“We need to be defending, but at the same time we also need to be attacking. We need to start winning games. We have worked now as a team for a good two weeks since the break.

“We have been trying to correct our lack of goals, which is our football problem at the moment.

“I am sure that we should be able to score at least two goals this Saturday (at Gibbo) in Triangle.”

Chaminuka inherited a team that had gone seven games without either scoring or winning a match.

Although there has been a significant change in the way the team has been playing of late, DeMbare are still to taste victory even after Chaminuka’s arrival.

He has led the fading giants to two draws and one defeat.

But one of Chaminuka’s biggest challenges is to plot how they can get the team out of the relegation zone.

DeMbare last won a match on March 30 when they edged defending champions Simba Bhora 1-0 at Rufaro, and now it appears the protracted barrenness has affected the players’ morale.

They sit third from the bottom after 14 games.

So bad is their predicament that they are only two points better than basement side Kwekwe United.

“The message has always been that we can do it. We can win matches. This game, like I said earlier, is a game where we want to take the game to the hosts. We want to take this game.

“We want our first away win since my arrival here. I think it will probably be our first away win, if I am right to say so. The only game that the team has won is the game that they played at Rufaro.

“So, we are looking for an away win, Bikita being our first away win. As we speak, I am just hoping that they become the casualties. We will win that game,” said Chaminuka.

However, Bikita Minerals may not be easy opponents.

They demonstrated their giant-killing propensities recently when they beat CAPS United at Rufaro.

Unbeaten in their last four outings, Bikita Minerals currently sit 12th on the log standings with 15 points.

However, Bikita Minerals will face Dynamos without their head coach, Wilson Mutekede, who is currently in South Africa attending the COSAFA Cup tournament as part of the regional body’s Technical Study Group.

His assistant Arnold Jani will take charge of the team tomorrow.
