DYNAMOS seem to keep on defying the odds.
They are surprising many, including some of their detractors.
Their performances are attracting attention, from as far as the United Kingdom, where former captain Memory Mucherahowa is purring over the club’s best start to a season in over a decade.
Another former skipper, Steven Alimenda, also believes DeMbare are back in contention.
The Glamour Boys are unbeaten in the opening eight rounds of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
Fans are coming back to support the traditional giant as evidenced by the strong crowd, which thronged Rufaro on Wednesday, when Dynamos held champions Scottland to a goalless draw.
There has been peace and tranquillity at the club following the coming in of a new executive headed by Vincent Chawonza.
Salaries are being paid on time while at times bonuses are even paid in advance.
And the players are performing beyond expectations.
“Truth be told, no one expected this.
“The team is producing good results and we are happy.
“Dynamos should not die,” said Mucherahowa, the club’s most successful skipper.
He wore the armband when Dynamos reached the CAF Champions League final in 1998.
No local team has achieved such a feat since then.
Mucherahowa is now based in England but Dynamos remain close to his heart.
“Dynamos are traditional giants, mainly because of their supporters.
“The good thing is they are coming, they are the backbone of Dynamos.
“Fans are the owners of the team. They make Dynamos who they are. The return of fans to the stadium has sparked life into Dynamos.
“That’s why I was against the idea of fans boycotting matches last season.
“They are sending a message that they are the backbone of Dynamos.
“Credit also goes to the players they are doing well. They should keep winning so that they get money.
“They should fill up the stadium all the time whether we are playing a big team or a small team,” said Mucherahowa.
Another former Dynamos captain, Alimenda, has noted a huge departure from last season’s situation, when DeMbare ended up fighting against relegation.
“There’s is a big difference from last season both on and off the pitch.
“There are a lot of positives which show that there is progress,” said Alimenda.
“Football is not played on the pitch only, it starts with the administration.
“On the pitch it will be just a fulfilment.
“I appreciate what is being done by Chawonza and his executive, they are proving that they can return Dynamos to where it belongs, that is at the top echelons of the league.
“The good results show that the coaches are doing well and the players are doing well,” Alimenda told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday.
Alimenda captained Dynamos about a dozen years ago when they completed a four-peat of league championships under record-breaking gaffer Kalisto Pasuwa.
“Personally, I am happy with the progress. I want to applaud coach Genesis Mangombe.
“He has assembled a team with the right blend of youth and experience.
“Bhora ramazuva ano harichangoda madhara chete,” said Alimenda.
The former combative midfielder believes the good old days are on the horizon for Dynamos.
“I am urging all the fans to come in full force in our next home game and show that Chazunguza have risen.
“Harare belongs to Dynamos. KuHarare ndekwe Dynamos.
“If you talk of Zimbabwean football you include DeMbare.
“Whether people like it or not, Dynamos are the biggest team in the land,” he declared.
Dynamos will host ZPC Kariba at Rufaro on Sunday, hoping to extend their unbeaten run.
“Let’s see what happens in the next three or four games. They could be crucial.
“But there’s no need for the players to put themselves under pressure.
“Dynamos are a big team, we are not building a name, we already have a big name.
“The players have to defend the badge. The players should be proud to play for that badge. That one is a big badge.
“There’s a feeling you have when you wear that blue and white jersey,” a nostalgic Alimenda added.
