TANAKA “Kante” Shandirwa made an instant impression on his debut for Dynamos in their 1-0 win over Hwange at Barbourfields on Saturday.
Although the 23-year-old was not on the scoresheet, he made his mark by controlling the midfield with some crucial interceptions in midfield.
Hello Paisa acknowledged his influence by honouring the former Yadah Stars midfielder with the man-of the-of-the-match award (US$200).
Shandirwa enjoyed a good partnership with Donald Madadi, and ironically, this pair answers to the same nickname ‘‘Kante.’’
He said he is aiming to score 10 goals for the Glamour Boys this season.
‘‘It was my first time playing knowing that I have a backing from such an intimidating crowd, their support gave me confidence to deliver my best, although I was a bit nervous coming out of the tunnel. I was happy with my performance although there are moments which I feel I could have done better.
“We created a lot of chances but we were just unfortunate. I think the environment is kind enough for me to hit double figures, it’s not something which will concern me much if things go otherwise, what is more important is to help the team achieve its objectives.”
The midfielder conceded that playing for Dynamos comes with a cost. ‘‘It’s now a different environment, I enjoyed every moment at Yadah Stars last season but there is a considerable difference in terms of the objectives and fan base.
‘‘The moment you become a Dynamos you are told that the fans want the silverware and that demand alone comes with a lot of expectations and I want to thank God for providing the required strength because it’s not easy.
‘‘I’m still growing and the good thing is I’m being guided by good coaches who also know how to get the best out of me.
“There is so much quality at the team, it’s helping me to develop my game and to remain focused.” Dynamos are scheduled to entertain Sheasham at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
