DYNAMOS defender Kevin Moyo knows just about everything at FC Platinum.
Just like his twin teammate Elvis, the centre-back made a name for himself while turning out for the Zvishavane-based team.
He was central to the first two of their four Castle Lager Premier Soccer League triumphs and was even voted the second best player on the domestic front after former teammate Rodwell Chinyengetere in 2018.
However, he would leave the miners as he searched for other challenges, first landing at Chippa United in South Africa and then at Zambian giants Nkana before finding his way back home to Bulawayo Chiefs.
While he watched in agony as his former team FC Platinum were crowned champions for the fourth time in a row, Kevin didn’t labour in vain at Bulawayo Chiefs.
He was instrumental, leading from the back together with Elvis, as the ambitious Bulawayo team captured the premium cup competition, the Chibuku Super Cup, beating Herentals in the final in front of an appreciative Barbourfields Stadium.
And Moyo, whose home town is Bulawayo is eager to face his former team FC Platinum at Barbourfields.
Dynamos will be the home side as they begin a rather strange sojourn playing their home matches at Barbourfields.
They had no option but to settle for a venue which is the natural home to their fiercest rivals Highlanders after Harare became devoid of a stadium that meets the PSL standards.
This followed the commencement of renovation works at the National Sports Stadium which DeMbare together with seven other clubs including fellow giants CAPS United had been using in the first 12 games of the season.
But the Glamour Boys shouldn’t be that worried as they are not short of players who hail from the City of Kings and will be eager to play well in Bulawayo.
Kevin, Elvis, Arthur Musiyiwa, Shadreck Nyahwa and Junior Makunike all have their roots in Bulawayo and it shouldn’t be that difficult for them to motivate their Dynamos teammates to play well at Barbourfields starting with this weekend’s assignment against FC Platinum.
For Kevin, it’s a matter of playing the most familiar opponents at his favourite turf.
“Dynamos and FC Platinum is a very big game and everyone is talking about it. I know most of the people in Bulawayo, those who support Dynamos and even neutrals are coming to watch this game, so it is going to be an interesting game.
“This is one of the biggest games which is always talked about and everyone will be anticipating it. Everyone will come to see the game so it’s going to be interesting.
“As a player, you don’t need motivation from the coaches or anyone, you just motivate yourself. It’s going to be a good game against my former team, especially playing in Bulawayo which is my home town, it’s a bonus and I hope we are going to win,” said Moyo.
“Usually, we are always playing well in Bulawayo and this season we have already played against Hwange who we beat 1-0 and Highlanders in a match which ended goalless.
“FC Platinum, of course, are different kettle of fish obviously. They want to keep the ball and we also play a possession-based type of football. So I think we are going to be a free-flowing game.
“But the team we are playing against plays a passing game and that is also the way we want to play. It’s going to be a nice game to watch if you look closely at our team and our opponents”.
Kevin is one of the most consistent players at Dynamos this season.
In the initial phases of the season, he has been partnering captain Frank Makarati at the heart of defence and he has been doing well while twinning with Donald Dzvinyai since Makarati suffered an injury which will keep him out for yet another week.
DeMbare are walking with a spring in their step after posting back-to-back wins over ZPC Kariba and Black Rhinos.
One of their best strikers Elie Ilunga, who has been playing well all along but failing to score has his confidence back after finally finding a way to score in their 2-1 win over Black Rhinos at Bata Stadium last week.
He will be hoping to add to his scoring tally against another of his former teams.
Ilunga didn’t really get to play enough minutes to prove his worth at FC Platinum.
He only started showing some glimpses after joining Black Rhinos last season where he scored 10 goals on his way to the Soccer Stars calendar. And he may have a point to prove against FC Platinum especially after getting his confidence back with last week’s goal.
