His first came in DeMbare’s opening game of the season against debutants Hardbody at the same venue.
After his scoring form seemed to have deserted him, Chinyama was back to potent best and as the most experienced player on the pitch he led by example with a classy show and walked away with the match ball for his hat-trick.
As they say form is temporary but class is permanent and Chinyama epitomised that with his performance which with a bit of luck and precision could have even yielded him half a dozen goals.
But there was no doubting that it was the young turks — Farai Mupasiri and Tichaona Mabvura — who caught the eye with a fluent midfield display that helped
Dynamos put on their finest all round show so far in the league. Mupasiri, handed his first start for Dynamos since being promoted from the club’s junior ranks and Mabvura, who has often had to come from the bench capped their brilliant show with a goal each while Roderick Mutuma also found his name on the score sheet.
It was also a brave decision by coach Callisto Pasuwa to throw in the youthful duo especially against the background of the pressure the Dynamos mentor is under.
Pasuwa has been sitting on an ultimatum from the club’s leadership who have given the coach three matches — against Quelaton, Blue Rangers and InterClube of Angola — to win or face the chop.
The Dynamos coach might have tasked his assistant Tonderai Ndiraya with handling the post match interviews but he left Rufaro at hugely relieved and satisfied man after the Chinyama show with the supporting cast of Mupasiri and Mabvura dazzled hapless Blue Rangers.
Orlando Pirates bound Chinyama opened his account in the 27th minute after Mupasiri had put Dynamos in front just two minutes into the match.
Mupasiri who tried his hand in rugby before deciding to settle for football as his career, scored his maiden league goal for the Harare giants after winning possession on the edge of the box and then blasted a rising shot that gave Rangers’ Zimbabwe Under-20 goalkeeper Seaba Maponga no chance.
The impressive Dynamos winger created another opening for himself in the 23rd minute when he switched flanks and beat his markers on the left before shooting on target but Maponga was equal to the task this time. Then Chinyama received a fine through pass from Mabvura and neatly chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to double the lead.
Chinyama, who had last scored in the nullified 4-2 win over Hwange on May 6, could have added another goal after he found himself in an almost similar position following an exchange of passes with Mutuma but the goalkeeper was unyielding.
The big striker turned supplier when Dynamos found their third goal just two minutes after the restart through Mutuma. The lanky striker poked home on the near post to find the back of the nets after Chinyama had weaved his way into the box and sent a low cross into the penalty area. DeMbare continued to make intelligent build ups and were rewarded with another goal in the 55th minute when Mabvura responded well to a pass from Mutuma to find the bottom corner of the nets in a crowded area with a sublime shot. Chinyama then grabbed his second, and Dynamos’ fifth, in the 58th minute when he beat defender Tawanda Mupungu and unleashed a thunderous left footer on the run that proved too much for the goalkeeper.
The big DeMbare striker completed his hat-trick when he finished off a cross from Mutuma in the 90th minute.
The Rangers camp was already in disarray before the game following the abrupt resignation of coach Misheck Chidzambwa who reportedly threw in the towel after clashing with the club’s bosses over team selection on Saturday night.
Assistant coach Masimba Dinyero led the team from the technical bench but the former Dynamos midfielder received a baptism of fire.
It did not get any better for Rangers who finished with 10 men after their captain Takesure Chiragwi was expelled for a second bookable offence four minutes from time. Chiragwi was first cautioned in the 50th minute for a crude tackle on Mabvura and referee Langton Chitsa had to send the player for an early shower when he fouled David Kutyauripo in the 86th minute.
By the time Chiragwi was sent off the damage had been done and the only notable occasion which the Rangers skipper might have missed was the moment when Chinyama sealed his hat-trick and completed DeMbare’s six-pack.
With two of the games won, Pasuwa and his lieutenants will now be hoping for a similar polished show when they travel to InterClube in Luanda to silence their critics and those pushing for their ouster.
Ndiraya was happy with yesterday’s display and praised the players for their team effort.
“It was a good performance from the guys. They put in hard work and we are quite satisfied with their efforts. Everyone played his part and in the end we got six goals,” said Ndiraya.
DeMbare remained sixth on the log table with 23 points, eight adrift of log leaders Highlanders.
But the Glamour Boys have three games in hand. Ndiraya was also pleased with the performances of young players Mabvura and former Zimbabwe junior rugby
international Mupasiri who received rare starts.
“We have always wanted to play these youngsters and we were just waiting for the right moment. We felt Rangers are a smaller team and rather than throw them into the deep end we gave them a run today. They played well but I must say Mabvura has been playing in some of our previous matches,” said Ndiraya.
Rangers are second from the bottom with six points after slumping to their 10th defeat. Dinyero conceded defeat but insisted they will fight to survive relegation.
“We lost the plot. Everything went wrong from the beginning when we conceded those silly goals. If we had not conceded early I think we could have played better,” said Dinyero.
