AN injiva is on the run after allegedly beating his 20-year-old girlfriend into a coma for refusing to have sex with him.

Mpendulo Ngwenya, 21, of Shaba village under Chief Mahlathini in Tsholotsho allegedly clubbed Talent Mvundla repeatedly with a knobkerrie on the head until she lost consciousness.

The incident happened on Saturday at around 2AM.

Ngwenya also allegedly beat up Mvundla’s sisters Nkazimulo, 21, and Yenzani, 43 who sustained minor injuries.

The three were taken to Shaba clinic.

The councillor of the area, Patrick Ngwenya said Talent was transferred to Tsholotsho District hospital after she sustained serious injuries on the head and arms.

A neighbour only identified as Ncube said Ngwenya went to Mvundla’s home to collect her, so that they could have sex at his homestead, but she refused.

Ngwenya is said to have become violent, setting upon the three women with a knobkerrie.

“I heard noise as the women screamed for help, but I was too scared to intervene. I was afraid that he was going to beat me up as well,” said Ncube.

Clr Ngwenya said injiva have become a threat in the village this holiday. He said they have also threatened to beat him up.

He said Ngwenya ran away after the incident and has not been seen at his homestead since Saturday.

“We’ve been looking for Mpendulo since Saturday. His girlfriend is in a critical condition. She can’t talk. We always urge them to maintain peace when they come this side,” he said.
